Hugh Murphy – President
Hugh has been a Board member since 2011. Hugh is a lawyer with the legal firm of Murphy, Murphy & Mollins in Moncton and has practiced law for over 27 years. He holds degrees in Business Administration (St. Francis Xavier University), and Law (University of Ottawa). Hugh has also been involved in various other organizations in the Moncton area including, Alliance Francaise de Moncton, Far Out East Cinema, Ecole Sainte Bernadette, Moncton Club Ltd. and the Moncton Area Lawyers Association.
Michelle Legere – Vice President
Michelle has been a Board member since 2014. She grew up in Riverview and attended the University of Toronto earning a BSc in Biology and Psychology. Michelle went on to complete her Bed at Atlantic Baptist University and an advanced certificate in resource education from Crandall University. She is married with two children and works in resource at Harrison Trimble High School.
Daniel McArdle – Treasurer
Dan has been a Board member since 2010. Dan is a retired financial officer from Co-op Atlantic. Over the past thirty years his community service has included; member of the Board of St. Augustine’s Housing Ltd., St. Augustine’s Parish Finance Council, member of the Board with Moncton Community Residences Inc., member of the Board with St. Patrick’s Family Centre, and a volunteer coach with Moncton Kiwanis Minor Basketball.
Neil McTiernan – Secretary
A graduate of Moncton High School, the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and the University of Guelph, Neil is retired from Health Canada as a Manager in the science regulatory field. Over the years Neil has enjoyed raising a family with his wife Monique, being involved with youth sports, church activities and with disabled children. Neil has been a Board member since 2013.
Jerry Kirkpatrick – Past President
Jerry has been a Board member since 2012. He has been involved in assisting and supporting people with intellectual disabilities since 1978 when he began his career with Moncton Community Residence Incorporated, (MCRI). Jerry was the General Manager of MCRI for 12 years retiring in 2009. His involvement in humanity related work continues, and is an active volunteer with the Lions Club, and United Commercial Travelers. Jerry’s career and personal endeavours have been spent advocating for the rights of all people who are at a society disadvantage-advocating for people who often are unable to advocate on their own behalf.
Ozzie has rejoined the Board in 2015 as the Parent’s Group representative. He served as a Board member from 2003 until 2012 serving also as Secretary and President during that period. Ozzie retired as the Atlantic Regional Manager for Quaker State Inc. in 2000. He is also a past President of the METS Parents Group. He is the father of Kenny Babineau who is served in METS Work Activity department.
Katherine currently works as an Education Support Services Coordinator in Anglophone East School District. Previous to that, she worked with students, parents, and educators for over a decade as a classroom teacher and as a district-based Autism consultant and resource mentor. Katherine holds Bachelor degrees in Arts and Education, and has earned Master’s degree in Exceptional Learners from the University of New Brunswick. She has also completed a Graduate Academic Certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis from the University of North Texas. Katherine has been a Board member since 2014.
Sheila Bennett recently moved back to New Brunswick from Ottawa. She had moved there originally to attend Carleton University, where she graduated with a BSc in Integrated Science and then stayed for another 10 years when she became employed with the RCMP. She transferred back home to be closer to her family and friends and now works for the RCMP in Riverview. Sheila is familiar with the METS organization through her brother Marc, who has used their services for many years. Sheila joined METS Board of Directors in 2015.
Ian has been a Board member since 2009. He is a Senior Systems Engineer at Bell Aliant Inc. and has over 20 years of experience working with major organizations in the information technology industry. Ian is also the Co-Owner/Operator of a group of Adult Residential Care facilities located throughout the greater Moncton area.
Gary Rouse hails from the bucolic community of Corn Hill, NB. He received his early education in the one-room schoolhouse in that community and then on to Sussex, where he received his high school education. Upon completion of high school, he enrolled in the Cook program at what is now known as the New Brunswick Community College, graduating with honours. After a brief stint working in the industry, he returned to the Community College as an instructor in the Cook program in 1969. He rose through the ranks becoming supervisor and then department head. A reshuffle of positions at the College in 1997 saw Gary move to the Student Services and Marketing department where he remained until his retirement in June, 2004. He is a member of the Probus Club of Greater Moncton and the Moncton Fish and Game Association. He enjoys photography and reading. Gary is married to the former Susan Leaman; he has three children and four grandchildren. Gary has been a Board member since 2015.
Deborah has been a Board member since 2009. Deborah lives in Salisbury. She has operated a one-person occupational hygiene consulting firm “Deborah Smith and Associates Inc.” for the past 20 years. Deborah became acquainted with METS through her sister, Darlene Bourque, who is a long-time METS service recipient.
